Uplifting the Nonprofit Community

Organizations can embrace philanthropy internally and externally.  Consider infusing one or more of these into your organization’s communications and activities.

Participate in Other Organizations’ Events: Encourage your team to support fundraisers hosted by other groups. Form a team for a charity golf event or volunteer to be a bell ringer for the Salvation Army during the holidays. Support staff involvement to create a stronger culture of giving.

Encourage Team Giving: Create fun ways to give back, like hosting a monthly “hat day” where staff donate $5 to wear a hat, and the group chooses a recipient organization.

Refer Volunteers to Organizations: If your organization doesn’t have a high volunteer demand one month but knows of others that do, reach out to your volunteer network to see if they’re available to lend a hand elsewhere. It’s a great way to strengthen the community.

Engage on Social Media: Share the love by interacting with posts from other organizations. Liking, commenting, and sharing their content not only supports their mission but can also foster valuable connections for your organization.

Here are a few easy ways to set your organization up to be receptive to these types of activities:

Enable Facebook Fundraisers: Ensure your organization is verified to receive donations through Facebook fundraisers, a popular choice for individuals during birthdays and other milestones.

Communicate Specific Needs: Let your supporters know when you’re in need and explain exactly how donations will help. Provide clear, accessible ways to contribute financially or offer alternative ways to support, such as volunteering or spreading the word.

Promote Fundraising Events: Share information about your events across all platforms—your office, social media pages, and website. Ensure that anyone visiting these spaces can easily find details about your events.

Optimize Social Media Engagement: Regularly assess whether your social media content is reaching your target audience. Experiment with new approaches, such as including questions in posts to encourage comments and interactions. Don’t hesitate to ask your team to engage with and amplify your posts.

Create a User-Friendly Website: Make it easy for people to get involved by having a dedicated section on your website for volunteer opportunities, upcoming events, or contact information. Your donation form should be prominently displayed and accessible directly from your homepage.
