Philanthropy has long shaped the identity of Sioux Falls. Its future now depends on how we all respond to the current moment. MaxEx is proposing a mindset shift for community leaders, philanthropists, and nonprofits to consider.

Beyond articulating and inspiring others with a clear vision (vision-casting), the priority moving forward must also ensure the vision is actively implemented, maintained, and realized over time (vision-keeping). This refers to taking care of the whole lifecycle from idea to sustained impact.

Strengthening and refining the processes, practices, and shared values that ensure long-term effectiveness and resilience needs as much attention as the efforts used to develop infrastructure

Shifting focus from nonprofits continually expanding or increasing size to prioritizing sustainable strength, stability, and responsible stewardship in operations and decision-making. Donors and nonprofits share this accountability.

Moving beyond replaying past approaches or traditions to actively creating new strategies and solutions through shared collaboration and community engagement. There is also room to develop new methods that could reduce reliance on traditional fundraising practices.
