Mindset Shift in Motion

A central outcome of the Reprise is the need to reinvigorate Sioux Falls’ philanthropic leadership. Data indicates this will not occur organically—at least not at the scale necessary to sustain the strong philanthropic legacy and performance Sioux Falls is known for. Here are a few ideas MaxEx is working on to cultivate effective and connected leaders:

As a Community…

To preserve that legacy and propel it forward, Sioux Falls must be intentional and strategic about cultivating and mentoring the next generation of philanthropic leaders.

  • Educate on the history and power of philanthropy in Sioux Falls, honoring the stories that shaped our city’s culture of giving.

  • Define “The Sioux Falls Way”—the best practices and shared values that guide philanthropic leadership for individuals and businesses.

  • Deepen connectedness among all businesses, especially those new to the community or led by new executives.

  • Provide established leaders with meaningful ways to transfer knowledge, experience, and expectations.

  • Broaden the base of engagement and increase community-wide participation in philanthropic efforts.

  • Teach emerging leaders how to leverage their time, talent, and treasure for maximum impact.

MaxEx would love to build the solution together. Please share your ideas here for how we can best build up and support the next generation of leaders.

As a Nonprofit…

In today’s philanthropic landscape, clarity and distinction matter more than ever. The Reprise reinforces how nonprofits must be able to communicate what makes their organization unique, what sets their mission/vision, approach, and impact apart from others.

Donors and partners increasingly want to understand how resources are being maximized and how collaboration enhances results. Having a thoughtful response to questions about potential overlap or shared resources not only builds confidence but also helps supporters see your organization’s specific role and value in meeting community needs.

This is also an opportunity to think creatively about storytelling, partnerships, and program design. Creativity counts. Whether through innovative collaborations, new ways to measure impact, or compelling narratives that bring your mission to life, nonprofits can lead the way in shaping a stronger, more connected culture of giving.
