MaxEx’s Communication Triangle

Effective communication is essential to success. It improves collaboration, builds stronger relationships, and saves time and resources.

Those who lead people spend up to 80% of their time communicating. Without intentional strategy, messages can easily miss the mark, especially when face-to-face interaction is limited.

The MaxEx Communication Triangle is a straightforward framework that enables teams to communicate with greater clarity and impact.

  • Process: Choosing the right method for the message. Your process of communicating must fit with the recipient’s preference. If you have multiple people who need the same information, consider incorporating multiple forms of communication to accommodate all intended audiences.
  • Motivation: How likely will the recipient hear your intended message? Those receiving messages prioritize information if it is interesting to them, if the information makes them feel informed, and if it is delivered timely and clearly.
  • Perception: This is how others perceive what is in front of them. Without this awareness about your message’s intention, people will create their own perception of its intent. Be clear, consistent, and mindful of your audience’s perspective.

When Process, Motivation, and Perception work together, communication builds trust and drives results. When they do not, messages are lost, and so is momentum.
